Cape Horn-Skye Elementary kids!

Representatives from the “Community Garden Club of Camas/Washougal” recently visited Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School, a recipient of one of our club’s grants. The purpose of the visit was to see firsthand how the grant funds were used.

The school used the grant to create a sensory garden featuring native, sun-loving, and drought-resistant plants. The project was a collaborative effort within the school: students in the Life Skills class led the creation of the garden, while third graders assisted with the heavy lifting, including setting up the raised beds and preparing the soil with cardboard and branches.

As a sensory garden, the space was designed to engage all five senses—sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing. The Life Skills teacher expressed deep gratitude, noting that the project would not have been possible without the support from the Garden Club.

It was wonderful to see the positive impact of our contribution on these students and their environment.
