Beautification / Community Service / Daffodil / Leaf Removal

Big LEAF REMOVAL happened at downtown Camas Post Office January 27, 2025!

About a dozen of our hearty “Community Garden Club of Camas/Washougal” members, and some spouses, showed up on sunny and cold Monday, Jan 27, 2025, afternoon, and removed four, stomped down, pickup TRUCK loads of Sycamore leaves from the downtown Camas Post Office grounds.
It was a lovely day for raking and enjoying the outdoors.
The daffodils (the club planted) on the east side of the building last fall have popped up.
The rhododendrons in the front near the entrance are COVERED in buds that we expect to bloom in March-May. The lilies on the west side are STILL up – but, if we get snow they might finally go to bed.

SHOUT OUTS TO:

(1) the Camas postmaster for supporting and allowing us to take this project up, (2) the postal employees for their help including mowing the lawns and trimming the hedges,  (3) the garden club for donating the bulbs, seeds, fertilizer and many hours of work, (4) a very big thank you to the “PO Beautification” team who have organized and volunteered many hours, raked leaves numerous years, thatched and re-seeded the lawn, planted daffodils, trained each other how to prune, especially the rhododendrons and other shrubs, and watered the lawns and plants in the hot summer days,  (5) Aaron Lutz for his excellent advice and help in lawn care and more, (6) “One Earth Botanical” nursery for taking the leaves, (7) Downtown Camas Association for offering to provide a “doggy bag dispenser”, (8) Natalia’s Cafe for providing advice and suggestions, (9) the encouragement and thanks from the many patrons and passers-by these last 4 years, and (10) last but not least, the generous soul who routinely picks up litter all over downtown including the post office grounds, but wishes to remain anonymous, and “un-pictured”.  THANK YOU ALL for making a difference!
