The Altadena, California library is asking for seed packets of Southern California native plants and/or garden seeds for their free “SEED LIBRARY”. (UPDATE: See below for the company the garden club contacted and specific seed sent to Altadena library.)
Native plant seeds are preferred for native plant restoration for the native animals. But, both seed types would be lovely – humans will want to grow things for themselves, too.
In their own words: “We are seeking seed donations to help reseed Altadena. this community is enormously dedicated to native plants, but also had many farmers and growers who lost generations of crops at community gardens and in backyards. wildlife coming down from the foothills has lost habitat and food. the air quality will be poor and temperatures will be higher without the lush greenery that protected us. not to mention the vast natural spaces that have burned and may benefit from help reseeding. if you have any seeds to spare – particularly native plants – please send me a message. please share widely”

Wondering what a “SEED LIBRARY” is? Well, you can check out or donate seeds to it at no cost. Many libraries have set them up all over the world. (There are 7 in the southwestern Washington State area!)
Please do NOT send plugs or plants, only seeds.
Please mail seeds to them at this address:
